4 P’s to a Rockin and Profitable Website
Last week we learned about branding from Sherry Totten in the “Ready, Set, Launch” Challenge. This week let’s talk about your web presence.
When it comes to your online presence, it’s natural to automatically think about the design of your website and web page. However, I want to challenge you to think deeper. I want to challenge you to not only think of your site as a place that reflects who you are as a person or business, but let’s think of your website as a marketing tool.
That’s right a marketing tool.
The first thing that people do to investigate more about you is go to the web. They want to see how you look… do you look professional and can you really provide them with a solution to their problem. In the next few weeks you will learn about how to convey your message to your audience, but today I really want to focus on what every entrepreneur should think about when it comes to building your website or even a landing page.
Let’s say your target audience finds their way to your site. What actions should they take once they land on a specific page and how do those action(s) lead to the success of your business? In order for your site to be a marketing tool you must think about your site in this way. So here are 4 tips to help you with that.
Purpose – This in my opinion is very important. You must know the purpose of your site. Not a surface version of purpose but you must know what your business goals are. What are you trying to achieve with your site. In order to create a site that not only rocks but create profit you must have a concrete idea of what it is you are trying to achieve.
Plan – Once you know the purpose you can now begin to plan out your site. To do this effectively think about the path a visitor must take in order to reach the desired goal. For example, what is the first step you want a visitor to take when they land on a page? What is the next step you want them to take? Keep figuring out what steps each person needs to take in order to direct them to your goal. Do this step for every page of your website. There should be a specific action that needs to be achieved.
Platform – Now that you know your purpose and the plan for your site you can now decide on which platform would be the best for you. There are so many different ways to build your website. Be sure that whatever platform you choose you can easily update and manage the content on the site. This is known as a content management system (CMS). Also make sure you can incorporate your blog directly into your website. It’s better to have one login for everything than to remember multiple. The platform that I highly recommend is WordPress.
Promote – This section is just as important as the above section. Whether you have all the pieces of a great website in place or not: it means nothing if you’re not sending traffic your way. Remember to post links to your site on your social media platforms, distribute your blog post, and always market your landing pages.
The tips listed above will also help you communicate what you need to your web designer even if they do not have a marketing background. Take some time and outline the purpose of your launch and then go to your website and see if your site or landing page also aligns with your business goals.
